River Heads Community Garden
Tucked behind the River Heads Community Hall, the River Heads Community Garden is more than just a space for growing veggies—it’s a place where locals come together to grow connection, share knowledge, and build community.
A Seed Planted by Locals
The idea for the community garden first took root in 2020, when a small group of River Heads Progress Association (RHPA) members saw the potential for a shared growing space that could bring people together. With support from local residents, donated materials, and many hours of volunteer work, the first raised beds were built and filled. From the beginning, it was a true community effort.
A Space for Everyone
Today, the garden includes a mix of shared and individual plots, where locals grow everything from tomatoes and herbs to pumpkins and sunflowers. There’s a composting system, water tanks, and plenty of shady spots to sit and chat. It’s also a hub for workshops, school visits, and informal gatherings—offering hands-on opportunities to learn about sustainable gardening, composting, and food security.
Time to Regrow
Like any good garden, this one needs regular care—and over time, it’s started to fall into a bit of disrepair. Some beds are overgrown, and a few areas need maintenance and fresh energy. That’s why we’re putting the call out to the community once again.
We want to bring the garden back to its former glory—and maybe try some new things while we’re at it! Whether it’s new design ideas, different crops, or community events in the garden, we’re open to suggestions.
Get Involved
Whether you’re a green thumb or just garden-curious, the River Heads Community Garden welcomes you. You can become a regular volunteer, attend a working bee, or simply stop by and say hello. If you’d like to join, contribute, or share your ideas, contact the RHPA or come along to our next community meeting.
Together, let’s grow something great—again.
